The Importance of Taking Your Business Cards with You Everywhere

It’s a jungle out there. Working in the business world is cutthroat, harsh, and quick to abandon. With success or failure in any business venture being under such volatile conditions sometimes the smallest things can go a long way. Being prepared to make every social interaction into possible career advancement will go a long way, and nothing will help you during an impromptu run in with a client or investor like a properly designed business card.
In business, more so than anything else, networking is a huge factor in determining success. The ability to get your name out there and build a recognizable corporate brand or personal reputation is paramount to securing and maintain healthy business relationships, and your business card can be a corner stone in how that builds to fruition. One never knows when they might have a chance encounter with a potential client, vendor, investor or employer. Getting noticed in a scenario like that can make or break your company or career. Having your business cards on the ready at all times is a surefire way to establish a firm, professional relationship and to stand out amongst your competitors. It’s important to remember while deliver a business card to be confident, and never apologize for any discrepancies in the card (If your card is causing you feel like you should apologize for something then it’s time to look into new cards).
When it comes down to choosing a prospective business partner out of a large list of applicants sometimes a business card will be the only thing you have to speak for you in any creative sense. Having your card close at hand might just be the additional momentum required to get you through the door for an interview or meeting over some other industry names that might have otherwise beaten you to the punch. Your card needs to be able to grab attention and deliver the exact kind of message that describes what others can come to expect out of working with you in a professional sense. It’s ok to leave some information off of the card in order to achieve a better balance of clutter vs visual impact; as long as you have at website listed you’ll be capable of being contacted.
Regardless of your field a business card should be traveling along with you at all times. Also remember to carry extras for conferences and large events where you might expect to hand out more than a handful (I’ve run out a few times myself!). Also, at any time a small bit of information is to be exchanged with a potential business partner always make sure to write it on the back of your card, regardless of whether or not pertinent information. If that CEO of the local up and coming business wants to know the best place to grab Indian food than your card is absolutely the place to give him that information. It’s an undeniable asset for creating and maintaining your brand reputation and speaks for you when you cannot.
